Kama Ayurveda Skin Care

(ad: presssample/gratis) I’m told that Kama is one of India’s biggest and most established skin care brands and when I think about it, I really don’t know much about beauty products from India. Australia, America, Korea, Japan, China – yes, but India, no and it makes me wonder how home-grown brands from that country haven’t made their way in more abundance here. We’re really open to beauty from across the globe so I’m hoping that Kama is paving the way for other Indian brands.

The packaging is so lovely that everything looks like its been gift wrapped (too much plastic, though) and the brand’s USP is Ayurveda, the Indian healing system based on balance between mind, body and spirit for wellness. Ingredients are chosen for their impact upon this wider mind/body balancing act as well as their impact upon the skin. The Rose Jasmine Face Cleanser (£23) uses Kannauj rose, aloe vera, jojoba oil and Madural jasmine. It comes out of the bottle as a light oil and the scent of rose is absolutely beautiful. When you’ve taken it off with a warm flannel, skin feels clean but not oily – there doesn’t seem to be any residue left. A quick spritz afterwards with Pure Rosewater and it was one of the nicest ‘experience’ cleanses I’ve done in a while – refreshing, effective and nurturing.

It’s a brand that has a huge inventory of products, so the pieces I’ve got here are just examples – I don’t think, in the UK, we are allowed to put ‘acne’ on labelling because it’s deemed a medical condition and therefore can’t be sold for cosmetic use, but we all know that anti-blemish is the usual way around this! I’m not sure that the brand can sell this particular soap in the UK, but bar cleansers are making a strong comeback. The others – deep cleansing and brightening (using Tumeric) – should be fine.

I love the look of the bar though – it looks like it means business and isn’t nearly as aromatic as I was expecting given that it contains sandalwood oil. So, this brand is a wait and see – you can browse it HERE for the US version if you wish until the site opens for business although you can shop the international site. I’m really curious about this brand and its straightforward simplicity. It’s not tested on animals, doesn’t contain artificial fragrance, colours, parabens or petrochemicals – in a way it feels like a brand from years ago but at the same time, it’s just very refreshing and to the point albeit with some fancy packaging.
