I finally tried them. It was all the hype when Bobbi Brown released their Crushed Lip Colors last year. I swatched it on my arm in store, and didn’t like it. I thought they felt dry. Then not long ago, Bobbi Brown released a liquid version, and the reviews just sound too good to be true. I was skeptical. Most liquid lipsticks feel dry after a while, no matter how comfortable they are. When my friend offered to help me purchase (no Bobbi Brown where I live), I took a chance. I bought the Crushed Lip Color in Cranberry, and the Crushed Liquid Lip Color in Juicy Date. I wanted colours I could wear daily.
In short, I was impressed. The arm swatch did it no justice whatsoever. Mental note: Try on lipsticks on the lips next time even though it’d be difficult to tell the beauty assistant a big NO if I didn’t like it. Seriously though, isn’t it why we say no thank you when they offer us the chair and then do a full faced makeup? I actually feel obligated to buy something!!! And it’s ALWAYS easier to just say no and walk away when they didn’t touch our face. It’s a sales technique I tell ya. Once you’re on that chair, there’s a super high chance of you buying something! And most of the time, maybe it’s out of guilt. So hard to say no! And I digress.
I love the Cranberry Crushed Lip Color. It is brownish red that can be worn more bold. However, in just one or two swipes, it’s an effortless worn in lip colour that I really like. It’s like a deeper brown nude, if that makes sense. I do notice the scent of these Crushed Lip Color is similar to Bobbi Brown’s regular lipstick scent. They remind me of my much younger self, observing my mom apply her red lipstick. I’m also glad I picked Juicy Date Crushed Liquid Lip Color because it’s the perfect nude. The liquid lipstick is not matte. How refreshing! It is like a creamy lip balm that’s super comfortable, and it also gives you a very pigmented tint! The doe foot applicator hugs the lips comfortably, and I don’t have to re-dip to get an even application. Off the tube, the finish is shiny like a lip gloss, but I like to blot it lightly to take away the shine. It is still comfortable, but less shiny. I can’t tell you enough how much I adore these. I’m holding back from buying more, and there’s no hurry since they’re permanent. I also have a mini liquid Big Apple as GWP. I don’t notice any scent on these liquid ones. Bonus!
Here is how they look on me. I wore Big Apple without any eye makeup at all. I like to wear it to add brightness when my eyes are bare. For Cranberry, I only added mascara and I think that’s enough definition. For Juicy Date however, I find that it looks better when I have some eye makeup on. For this post, I only added a kitten flick on top of the mascara. Juicy Date looks great when paired with smokey eyes.
I think I paid RM90 or RM98 for each of this, I don’t remember, but they are less than RM100 each, for sure. Have you tried any of these yet? I have my eyes on a few more colours but I keep on reminding myself that I really don’t need more.
