Diptyque Rose Candles

I will say immediately that I have yet to put these on the burn (it’s been a fragrance laden week and I’ve spritzed, sprayed, burned and bathed so I’m waiting to give these delicate rose infused candles their chance to shine) but everyone loves a) Diptyque and b) rose. So I feel that we’re winning before I’ve even got the matches out. This pair of same-but-different candles are entirely dedicated to roses and the notes burst out of the boxes as I opened each one. They’re proper smile-makers both in terms of look and fragrance.

Diptyque Rose Candles

First up, the Damask (or Damascena) variant. I think you could say this is the more full-bodied of the two in terms of scent. It’s warm and voluptuous with creamy, green hints – if I could get my bed-linen to smell like this I’d flop in joyously every night… or possibly more easily justify an afternoon power-nap. The fragrance is an utter pleasure. There just isn’t anything not to like here and I can’t think of anything else to say about it other than give you rose facts that I am sure you already know.

Centifolia is more complex in nature. It’s greener, with (to my nose) some lightly peppery notes dancing over the top and is designed in this format to smell exactly as the full, unpicked rose would smell while still on the bush. Centifolia rose (sometimes known as May rose) is noted for having an optimum aromatic time of dawn which makes me even more grateful that it’s been replicated in a candle because a dawn flower sniff isn’t on the cards for me any day soon. Diptyque claims that they’re first to ever create a candle entirely dedicated to this rose variant and I don’t doubt it for a moment. Of the two, I prefer Damask for being that little bit sweeter but they’re both delightful.

The rose collection is limited edition (I assume to target Valentine’s day so I don’t think they’ll run out any time soon as it’s over a month away) and an olfactory antidote to these chilly, grey evenings. There are larger versions (shown, 190g) at £53 HERE at SpaceNK and also smaller version for £30 each (70g, also Space).
