It took me a long time to write this review. For one, I have a few things from different brands to try. Secondly, I didn’t want to rush it because it’s skincare after all. Thirdly, I just haven’t been feeling it 😉
The Chanel Hydra Beauty Camellia Water Cream Illuminating Hydrating Fluid is a moisturizer enriched with camellia water, which boosts hydration and radiance for that natural glow. As expected with Chanel, this moisturizer is scented. I sincerely hope Chanel will tone down its fragrance in skincare though. Perhaps something more subtle and less lingering. This is a thicker cream which does not feel heavy or greasy on my normal to dry skin. In fact, when I use it in the evening, I like to add a few drops of the Chanel Huile de Jasmin to the moisturizer. Photo below shows my evening skincare lineup with Chanel.
Now, my gripe with the moisturizer is, it contains shimmers. Yes, the cream is comfortable, and yes it keeps my skin plump, but why is it shimmery? A few years ago, I said that shimmers have no place in a moisturizer, or any skincare for that matter. It was about Estee Lauder’s skincare back then. I still feel the same. Sorry Chanel. This is not makeup. I apply this cream before I sleep. Why do I need a shimmery face? In the morning, I apply this moisturizer UNDER sunscreen and under makeup. The shimmers will NOT show. I mean, to be fair, the shimmers are very fine and subtle, but still, not necessary. A moisturizer adds radiance by keeping the skin soft and supple, NOT by instantly adding radiance through shimmers. Leave that to highlighters.
I also shouldn’t get worked up, because it’s only skincare. I hope this shimmery skincare will not pick up momentum or it would really get on my nerves. LOL!
As I mentioned, I have normal to dry skin, so this cream sits comfortably on me. Even on a hot and humid day, it does not make my face look oily. I would think this works on those with normal to slightly oily combination skin, but those with very oily skin will find this too heavy. I remember I always preferred gel moisturizers when I had oilier skin. I think this Camellia Water Cream is a good moisturizer that keeps my face soft, and keeps dry flakes at bay. Despite the shimmer and scent, I truly enjoyed using it the past few months.
However, I will not purchase it once I have used it up. My old lady brain keeps nagging when I use this moisturizer. Every night when I apply my skincare, there’s a silent voice that screams “Why are there shimmers?!”
What do you think of shimmers in skincare?
